As a projector for the High-End Homecinema sector, the Planar PD8130 is equipped with 1000 ANSI lumens, a HDTV 1920 x 1080 resolution and a contrast of 10000:1. The manufacturer specifies a runtime of 4000 hours for this projector's lamp, which amounts to roughly 5.5 years at 2 hours of daily use. A look at the light output reveals: The 1000 ANSI lumens are sufficient to illuminate an image width of up to 321 cm in darkened rooms. If room light is present, we recommend not exceeding a maximum width of 214 cm. In terms of video signals, the device processes resolutions up to Full HD 1080P. Since entering the market in 2007, production has been discontinued; the manufacturer no longer actively offers the model.

I was able to take a look at the Planar for the first time today. I have to say that the projector exceeded my demanding expectations. Here is a brief feedback:+ The sharpness is amazing (one of the best among the reasonably affordable DLPs up to EUR 7500).+ The colors have rarely been as true and on point as with this device.+ The contrast (dynamic and in-image) is really a feast for the eyes and comes very close to the JVC Hd1
+ The black level is very good, but not yet perfect, the 8150 can certainly do a bit better (unfortunately I havent seen it yet).
+ The picture has a calmness that I have only seen before in JVC. No noise, no block artifacts and the like (not like the W5000 with BC!!! etc.)
+ Very quiet in economy mode
+ Newest Genum chip
- Unfortunately a bit expensive for a device with DC 2.
- Zoom, focus only manual, lens only with Allen key (:)
- If black were a little blacker, it would be the ideal projector for everyone!
The street price for this projector is around EUR 4,500.
